Something seems to be up with my blog as everything I try to upload comes up with a grey background. So until I can work out if I have somehow randomly changed a setting or something strange I will put some posts on facebook instead. Here's a link to my page. Hope you'll come and say hello!

I thought I should post something bright and cheerful today and I thought of these little sketches I did a few years ago with my favourite Stabilo 68 pens. I love those felt pens - the retro design and the bright solid colours with the white lines on the barrel just make you feel happy.

When we moved in to our cottage the garden was full of flowers, especially roses (which along with tulips are some of my favourites), but because of the strange weather this year they seemed to end really soon. I really missed them! I did the illustration above using the rose linocut that I mentioned before and thought I would call it Lost Rose. Now though a couple of brave roses have come out again in the garden so I think the title must be changed to Last Rose. Slightly more cheerful, even if not completely. Autumn is definitely on its way...

Here is a pattern I made from a small lino block that I cut. It was the first one I did after I moved in here actually, but I had the idea in my old house so it was nice to look forward to getting settled and back to work. I coloured and set up the pattern on the computer.

I snapped this photo, just as the light was going from my studio, of a painting I did the other day. I wanted to just grab my paints and put something down without thinking too much for a change.
It's funny but when working within the constraints of a planned image I sometimes dream about painting only in a very free way and simply laying on the colours and seeing where I arrive. But then in truth, there is nothing simple about painting in any form and I actually enjoy, maybe even need, planning / design; deciding on where a shape will end or a colour overlap in a print kind of makes me tick.

I have made / done (what would the verb be here??) the grand total of 2 tweets and I have got to say it is too, too scary for me! Like working out where to put a hash tag even makes me nervous. Because really, why would people want to know what I am doing at that particular moment? I don't know if it is because I am quite a reserved person but honestly I feel very strange to think that someone would want to read what I consider important enough to make a hash tag of.
But anyway, I took the above photo of my palette the other day as I was cleaning up because the colours were just too pretty to wash straight away and so I hope you like it as I send it off into the ether just for prettiness sake!

Well, my poor printer has finally gone beyond the point of being rescuable so it has had to go. To be honest it has been a bit of a beast for the past couple of years and it has even been discontinued by HP so I expect I am not the only one to have found it temperamental. It did produce some lovely quality prints though so it wasn't all bad!
So I've decided that for the time being I will swap my shop around and offer some of my drawings and paintings for sale - originals, not prints.
I will still be offering archival quality prints if you are looking for one though, I just won't be making them in house so they might take a bit longer to be ready.
My shop is here if you would like to see the couple of things I've put up so far.
